Like a pet rock come to life, moss balls make a perfect low-key companion—with just a touch more responsibility.

Care Instructions:

  • Replace water every 2-3 weeks or when water becomes cloudy. Only use filtered or purified water—tap water can damage the moss ball.
  • Do not expose to direct sunlight—moss balls will be damaged and die.
  • Moss balls grow by a few millimeters every year—get a larger jar when it outgrows its current home.
  • Gently roll moss ball in hands to reshape into ball—this occurs naturally with underwater currents in the deep lakes moss balls are native to, so in their jar they may not maintain that shape without assistance.
  • Moss ball will not tolerate temperatures above 85 degrees Fahrenheit or below 35 degrees Fahrenheit.

Be very careful—if you ever want to get rid of your moss ball, DO NOT dispose of it in any natural or unnatural bodies of water. Never add living creatures to your natural ecosystem, as their impact could be unnamed but disastrous.
